THIS THURSDAY’s SECRET MOVIE isn’t a movie. That is to say, it will be a “MOVIE SHOW” but it won’t be a single feature film— we will be showing a selection of shorter works. Perhaps they will be obscure, perhaps they will be well-known, but they will all be fun to see in a theater.
Perhaps we are tipping our hat to say that this week’s SECRET MOVIE SHOW is devoted to a handful of works by a certain someone you might know as SCHMIM SCHMENSON.
If you find yourself unable to crack our code, please closely examine the photograph of SCHMENSON with one of his signature characters, SCHMERMIT THE SCHMOG.
There is still some guesswork to be done, however, as this person was quite prolific and exactly which works we will be showing won’t be revealed until the night. But feel free to guess away at our Facebook page.

What is the movie, you ask? Well, it’s a secret.
This week’s flick was chosen by Two Boots’ own MIKE ROTH, so you KNOW it’s gonna be good.
Here’s a partially redacted review from a major publication:
“this is one of the most original American independents in years: a [REDACTED] movie which celebrates the ’50s through ’80s eyes. Where earlier [REDACTED] films like [NAME OF OTHER FILM] were forced to concentrate on plot, [NAME OF THIS FILM] deliberately slips its story into the background in order to linger over all the latent erotic material of the period that other films could only hint at in their posters.”

NOTE: EYES WIDE SHUT is NOT this Thursday’s SECRET MOVIE.
However: it IS the movie Stanley Kubrick was thinking of when he called the writer/director of our SECRET MOVIE and said “How did you DO it? I’ve been trying to make a film like that for YEARS!”*
By “a film like that” he meant, broadly speaking, a movie about SEX and JEALOUSY.
It should be noted that this week’s SECRET MOVIE— which is FREE, by the way, Thursday at 11pm at UCBeast— is not all that similar to Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut. It has no orgy scenes, though there is a party scene where people take drugs in the bathroom, and there is plenty of sexual paranoia on display.
But the similarities stop there.

It features a cameo by The Incredible Hulk
It features actors from Curb Your Enthusiasm, The Larry Sanders Show, The Simpsons, and The Godfather Part II
One of the actors was considered for the role of Lex Luthor in the 1978 Richard Donner film Superman
It features a disco version of Beethoven’s 5th Symphony
David Cross likes this film a lot (other famous comedians do, too, but he personally selected it when curated a week of films a NYC movie theatre)
Some of you have already figured out what the SECRET MOVIE is. Others— especially Comedy Nerds who have somehow never seen it before— are in for a treat.
